Les enveloppes
de Jean Laborde
A simple and powerful citizen initiative for all those who travel across the world
The idea
Les enveloppes
de Jean Laborde

In a world where inequalities persist, every action can make a difference. Les enveloppes de Jean Laborde is a simple but powerful citizen initiative, inviting all those who travel to Madagascar, other developing countries, or who live there, to support the local economy by paying for some of their everyday purchases at the price practiced in their home countries.
The objective? To offer direct financial support to fragile economies, without going through intermediary organizations, and thus avoid the risks of financial retention that this could induce, while promoting active and sustainable solidarity.
The choice of the name Jean Laborde is not insignificant. Jean Laborde represents the ambivalence of relations between France and Madagascar: both a controversial figure and a symbol of colonial history, he embodies the tensions but also the opportunities of this complex relationship. This choice was made in full awareness of this ambivalence, to invite reflection on how we can, today, transform this history into a positive gesture for the future.

The action
How
to participate?
It’s simple, really simple. When shopping in Madagascar or other developing countries, pay for certain products or services at the price equivalent to that of your home country.
For example, a local meal in Madagascar can cost between MGA 10,000 and 20,000 (€ 2 to € 4), while in France, the same meal would easily cost € 20. By paying this difference, you add the surplus to an envelope and give it to the merchant. This direct gesture supports the local economy and generates an immediate impact on the ground.
Optional: You can write on the envelope the words “Les enveloppes de Jean Laborde”, so that merchants and recipients can make the connection with the initiative. This helps to strengthen the impact of the action and create a connection between your gesture and the global movement. However, it is also perfectly acceptable to give a blank envelope, without any mention.
But be careful, this is not about giving alms. This is not charity.
You are not giving for free, you are buying a product or service at a fair price, a price equivalent to that practiced in an economically solid country.
This gesture is not about “compensating” for a weakness in the local market, but about respecting a principle of fairness: you pay what the product or service is worth in a more stable economic environment.
It is essential to understand that by acting in this way, you are making a fair exchange, where everyone receives the fair value of their work. This is not an act of generosity, but an act of active solidarity. You are supporting the local economy by allowing traders to maintain more dignified conditions, while valuing their work at its fair value.
The exponential power of a single click
Just one click to share the initiative with your friends, family, colleagues, and your entire network.
Just one click to bring a global movement to life.
Explanation
Here's why it works:
You relay the initiative to 100 people
These 100 people relay it to 100 others
The 10,000 people relay to 100 others
ObjectiveIf each relay allows the delivery of an envelope, and only one, that will already be something.
Every gesture counts, and the impact will be all the greater if each participant takes responsibility and acts in turn.
Just one click is all it takes to start changing the world.
Every share becomes a spark that ignites a chain reaction.
With each step, the impact grows tenfold, and the initiative grows in strength, reach, and effectiveness.
This is not charity, but fair and equitable exchange. The impact of your click is multiplied, because every person you touch becomes a changemaker. Together, we can create a movement that crosses borders and redefines economic relationships on a global scale.
Relaying this initiative means participating in the construction of a more united and fair economy.
Your click is the first step in an exponential change.
